Vicki Norvell vnorvell@aol.com

I guess I tried to post my query in the wrong place the first time. Will try again. There were some Norvells living in Pike County during the period from about 1830 to 1870. They are definitely our line. I haven't been able to find out much about them. Thomas Norvell of Calumet Twp. is our ancestor. I understand there is a Norvell cemetery which might yield some information. I live hundreds of miles away in another state, but spent a day there several years ago looking for anything I could find. I could not find the cemetery. I understand it has been transcribed in the Pike County DAR Vol. 2, 1983; FHL fiche 61041947. I understand it is a very small cemetery. Any info anyone could find and Email to me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

I am looking for descendants or more information on the following:

"Richard A. Thornton, Frankford, is one of the pioneers of Peno township, and the history of Pike county would not be complete without a notice of him. He was born in Mason county, Kentucky, January 24, 1808, the son of James and Mary Lucas Thornton. His father was a native of Virginia and his mother of England. Our subject was the eleventh child of a family of fourteen children; thirteen lived to maturity. Mr. Thornton's early life was mostly passed in working on a farm and attending school. He was united in marriage, February 3, 1831, with Catherine Cash. In the spring of 1832 they left Kentucky for the state of Missouri, coming by boat, first settling in Peno township, three miles south of his present farm, where he lived for some twenty years, improving a timbered farm which he sold, buying his present farm, where he has since resided. He has one of the best farms in Peno township, consisting of 240 acres of excellent land; it is under a high state of cultivation, with one of the best residences in the neighborhood, a large two-story brick, on a beautiful lawn, where can be obtained a fine view of the surrounding country. The house is built in modern style. He has a large barn, a good orchard, and has done much to improve Peno township. Mr. and Mrs. Thornton are the parents of five children: John, Elizabeth, Daniel, Richard, and Thomas W. John and Richard still reside at home in care and management of the farm. Mr. Thornton is a member of the Christian Church."

John was born in Missouri. John was born in 1852 and Mary in 1853. She was born in Missouri. Her father was from Tennessee and her mother Sarah Ellen Eads was from Kentucky ( again according to the census ). Does this family sound familiar. Cashus Laird, who married Mary Ellen Patton (or Patten) and lived, we think, in Paynesville, Missouri around or between 1886-1904. They had 5 children: Gertrude Laird, Arthur Laird, Harry Samuel (my Grandfather) and his twin sister, Hallie who were born in 1886 and Clay Laird born in 1889. Mary Ellen died giving birth to Clay and her brother (?) Sam patton took him to raise. Clay died at 15. Sam was married to Nancy Stark, whose family owned Stark Apples. Dora Patton Wells took Hallie Laird (Fishencor) to raise. The remainder of the children stayed with their father, Cashus. Harry Samuel, my grandfather, settled in St. Louis at the age of 19. He married Lily Rose Herman. Harry died in 1963. I am looking for ANY information that anyone may have on either the Laird's (parents names of Cashus) or Patton (parents names of Mary Ellen). I know the Lair's immigrated to America from Ireland but I do not know where they entered nor what their names were nor where they settled other than my gr-grandfather Cashus and my grandfather, Harry. I cannot find Cashus in any Census Records, death records, marriage records. ANY help would be greatly appreciated to help tie up loose ends in my genealogy for my children and grandchildren. Responses will be greatly appreciated.
